Marcel Strobel

Code, engineering, knowledge, art – these are the focal points to which I have devoted a lot of time and will continue to do so.

I have been a passionate programmer for years and since my studies it has ultimately become my profession. Since design is also an important aspect of software for me, I can combine two passions.

What drives me still so, reaches from art, culture and language, over faith & knowledge, up to nature & technology. I have tried to accommodate all topics and present them in a compact way. Some contents will follow in a later update.

Have fun browsing!

LITERATURE

Literature used to take up only a modest part of my spare time, but in recent years it has become more and more important. I’m currently writing the last volume of LEBEN and I’m already looking forward to finishing a few short stories. After that I can slowly dedicate myself to my second big story—there is still a lot of work waiting for me...

Enclosed you will find links to the main page of LEBEN, as well as later to the section of poems and articles. The latter are currently no longer available, but will follow soon.

LEBEN

With LEBEN (German (to) live, (the) life, (the) lifes) I put my first story on paper. The original, rather small idea became a thick book—now with more than three large follow-up volumes and four small companion-volumes.

The world of LEBEN has grown and has delighted a small readership who have received a copy from the first, private and limited edition. The first volumes will be available on the market in the near future.

Reading samples (in German, soon in English, too) and details of the story can be found on the project’s website.

KLEINIGKEITEN

In addition to LEBEN, there is also a less extensive stack of paper in the form of KLEINIGKEITEN (German: little things, small stuff, trifles). Here I dedicate myself to smaller ideas, which I package in the form of short stories.

Within the framework of KLEINIGKEITEN, the original story behind LEBEN will also be approached anew with EPOCHEN. It is a bit closer to the actual idea, but still a completely independent story in its own world. If you like LEBEN, you will certainly enjoy KLEINIGKEITEN.

CODE

Software is the heart of my profession and many projects. With it you can make everyday things easier and some things even possible in the first place.

Solving problems, finding algorithms and striving for efficiency and good compromises is an important part of my life – in software as well as in the analogue world.

Here you always break new ground and can bring seemingly small ideas to life. What can become of it, as it is shown again and again, can far exceed original expectations.

I will link a few of my projects and mini-games here at a later date.

ENGINEERING

As a Bachelor of (Software) Engineering, I have a great affinity for technology in general and computers in particular. The foundation for this was already laid during my training as a state-certified Assistant for Electronics and Information Technology.

My main interest lies in software for applications, although the direct control of hardware is also attractive. The latter is becoming less and less attractive for my projects. Nevertheless, it will certainly drive me in the direction of hardware development again. There are already suitable ideas and plans. So it’s only a matter of time.

KNOWLEDGE

There are a number of ways to gain knowledge. But the most exciting thing is—at least for me—to do or achieve something myself.

I don’t like to go down well-trodden paths, except for those that are currently the only possible ones. Instead, I always try to find out why an approach is so common—or “the only one”.

My curiosity often leads me to new places, which often makes me read into new things or have to fathom them first. From writing & language, to nature & technology, to art & culture, I call many areas my home—and there is always something new to it. More about writing & language can be found below, as well as literature.

ART

The subject of art is very far-reaching and multi-faceted. It can be drawing or poetry, writing a text, composing a melody, creating an image, working out a design... The realm of art is almost limitless.

Much of it I have followed intensively for a while, some of it returns to me again and again. Music is an integral part of my life, just like the visual arts. Writing, drawing, composing, poetry, writing, photography and a few other subjects are covered in a separate section below.

I hope that in the course of time I will have my own areas on all topics in which I can share some of my experiences and results. Especially on the topic of photography I already learned a lot.

DESIGN

My interest in web design and photography has led me to have to use a number of programs in order to be able to accomplish my tasks at all.

From the classics like Photoshop and Flash (now “Animate”) I switched to tablet computers and drawing tablets to ArtRage and Clip Studio Paint. For time-lapse and other things I was also allowed to work with After Effects and Premiere Pro.

But the list of things to learn is still long—and I’m really looking forward to it!

PHOTOGRAPHY

Since the taking and composition of photos is becoming more and more a focal point for me, my arsenal of associated technology is also growing.

This topic still offers some exciting details to discover. From micro- and macro-photography to panoramas and astrophotography everything is there.

My knowledge and a small gallery (probably also for guest artists) will be linked here at a later point in time. There you will also find tutorials, as well as tests and comparisons of cameras & lenses.

MUSIC

For me, music is an important part of my life. It accompanies me through everyday life, depths and heights. My MP3 player is the soundtrack of my life, but I also like to add my own notes.

My music usually only follows a certain genre within an album—at least the theme remains the same. If you like, you can listen to everything free of charge & download it and add it to your collection if you wish to do so. A lot is still in the works, but at some point I will be able to finish one album after the other.

novuli

Language is an important topic in my life. Since I (myself) like to devote myself to important things with heart and soul, I have also researched a lot in the areas of writing, language and culture.

The result was novuli (latin novum in lingua); a constructed language that I have been developing for over 20 years and that can be finished relatively quickly—when I finally take care of the last details.

Then I can start creating the vocabulary, which will probably end with an extensive word library. Based on this, the language itself can be generated. This will also lead to large software projects...

GAMING

Who missed out some masterpieces of gaming-history, should seriously think about getting in touch with at least the new editions. The reboots of Tomb Raider and Wolfenstein are impressive. But also older games like Mass Effect and Borderlands, as well as online multiplayer like Aion, Tera Online and Overwatch are worth a try. Especially the low prices should make it an affordable experience—given, you have a suitable computer. But you can also find exciting time consuming games, which are worth playing. Game on!

OWN GAMES

Besides my interest to play, there is for a long time also that of designing games (board games and small browser games). Out of curiosity and the desire to learn new things, I will also dedicate myself to the native app development in Apple’s Swift in the future. If it’s fun and fast enough, I’ll take care of the development of some apps or take the big step to deal with Unity. With this, all apps could be developed not only for one platform, but for almost all systems—besides Android and iOS also for PC and console. I’m really looking forward to the associated projects!

MOVIES & SERIES

When I am working on my projects at home, “the TV” is most likely off. Nevertheless games are not the only moving pictures. Next to great animes of the batch Akira, One Punch Man, Naruto, One Piece, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Sword Art Online and others, I also recommend some Blurays like Frozen, Over the Hedge, Tangled, Brave, Despicable Me, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania, and, and, and.

Finally I'd like to entrust you with The Big Bang Theory and The X-Files more than anything else. The old X-Files-series is awesome, especially in the remastered Bluray-edition!

MISCELLANEOUS

As is so often the case, one page is not enough to cover everything that occupies you—such as archery, astronomy, physics, biology, history...

Therefore I will prepare many projects in the course of the time as own sites. The sites for my music and my books are already somewhat finished, but there is still a lot missing.

Since my time is limited, I am glad, that my friends and family support me with my projects in various ways. Without this help some things would take like forever or wouldn’t even be possible in the first place. I know that. And that’s why I’m so grateful.

CONTACT

I am open for criticism, suggestions, comments and the like. Also if you’re missing something, you have questions about a subject, you dislike something or you want to contribute something, just contact me at any time.

I will answer your emails as soon as possible. Please think of a(n email-)subject, that helps to remember the topic of the conversation. Otherwise one can get lost quickly. :-)
